Yerington, Dayton strong in 3A state

Yerington had a strong effort at the NIAA 3A State Championships, sending four wrestlers to today's finals.

In the team standings, the Lions are in third with 75 points and trail Virgin Valley, which has 76, by just one point. Spring Creek leads with 109 points.

For Yerington in the finals, Matthew Bevington will wrestle Pahrump Valley's James Chapman at 135 pounds, Sean Watson will wrestle Spring Creek's Kamas Wing at 171, Daniel Bauer will face Dayton's Josh Coughlin at 189 and Stephen Skroch will face Spring Creek's Tyler Collins at 215.

Dayton also had a strong effort, placing three in the finals. Along with Coughlin, Sam Armstrong will face Incline's Jordan Cronin at heavyweight and Travis Wade will face Virgin Valley's Jake Gold at 130.

Dayton is in sixth with 50 points. Lowry is in fourth (72 points) and Pahrump is in fifth (70). For Fernley, Kevin Martinez will face Spring Creek's Josh David at 125 for the title.
