Radiance Salon and Spa is making a statement with scissors.
From 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. today, the salon is holding a "cut-a-thon" with 100 percent of the proceeds of the $15 haircuts going to Advocates to End Domestic Violence.
Master stylists Joan Alvarado and Nancy Morris will take just a little off the top, even up the sides or do an all-over trim for anyone in need of a haircut, or for those who just want to sharpen up their look and make a donation to Advocates.
"We're a new business, and we wanted to do this," Morris said. "Women helping women."
Morris's specialty is spiral perms, a time-involved permanent for those with long hair.
"They take a long time, but I love to do them. And all of our products are environmental-friendly. They're healthy for the hair."
Lisa Lee, director of Advocates to End Domestic Violence, appreciates the help.
"It's because of people like this we're able to reach out to those in need," Lee said.
Morris said the day has been set aside for the fundraiser. Even if the customer is a regular, the fee will be donated.
"We wanted to do this for Advocates to End Domestic Violence," Alvarado said. "We want to be able to do this, or some kind of benefit every year."
Alvarado specializes in about five different types of hair extension, color weaves and color extensions.
"And all current types of hair styles," she said. "Well, the works."
The salon is at 201 E. William St., Suite 6, next to DuBois' Health Food Center and Herb Shoppe.
