'Turn Nevada Blue' dinner coming up
The Douglas County Democratic Central Committee's third annual "Turn Nevada Blue" dinner is Saturday at the Carson Valley Inn, Minden.
Special guests are New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and retired General Wesley K. Clark.
Other elected State and Democratic officials will attend.
The dinner will begins at 6 p.m. in the Shannon Ballroom with a no-host bar. Cost is $60 per person.
A private hosted cocktail reception with the candidates along with preferred dinner seating will be from 6-7 p.m.
Cost is $150 per person. Tables of 10 can be purchased at a discount.

Musical theater workshop at museum
The Wild Horse Children's Theater and the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada will be holding a musical theater workshop from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at the museum.
This workshop is designed for students ages 7 through 13 who enjoy singing and acting.
Students will learn three show tunes and leave the class with these songs on CD for auditions.
Cost is $30 for this two-hour session. Space is limited.

Open Space Advisory Committee to meet
Carson City's Open Space Advisory Committee will meet at 6 p.m. today in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, 851 E. William St.
Topics include possible recommendation of the Carson River Aquatic Trail Master Plan, discussion about the use of goats to control weeds growing at Quill Ranch, and progress reports about the Horse Creek Ranch Conservation Easement and the Swafford cabin near the end of Kings Canyon Road.
Mentor training session Tuesday
There will be a mentor orientation training from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday. To be a mentor, you don't need any special skills - just an ability to listen and to offer friendship, guidance, and encouragement to a young person.

'Treasures of the Mint' video today
A half-hour episode of the Department of Cultural Affairs' "Exploring Nevada" series entitled "Treasures of the Mint" will be shown noon today at the Nevada Historical Society, 1650 N. Virginia St.
