The Douglas County Senior Center will be conducting their eighth annual Senior Health Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, in the Shannon Ballroom of the Carson Valley Inn, located at 1627 Highway 395 in Minden.


This fair is designed to provide seniors and the community an expanded awareness of health care providers and services in the community.


There will be blood pressure checks from 9 a.m. to noon and massage therapy from 9 - 11 a.m.


There will also be an all day raffle, the proceeds of which go towards the Meals on Wheels program.


Free transportation to the fair will be provided for Douglas County seniors by calling DART at 783-6456.


This event is free and open to the community.

Senior Yoga twice weekly at CV Methodist Church




"Yoga for Seniors" is offered the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, located at 1375 Centerville Lane in Gardnerville.


This program runs from 10 - 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, and is offered free of charge to anyone aged 60 years or older.


DART will be providing shuttle service to and from the senior center each day.

Home Companion program seeks volunteers to help seniors live independently


The Douglas County Senior Services program is seeking volunteers for the Home Companion program.


Home Companions offer companionship, assistance with simple chores and transportation for seniors who need assistance to live independently in their own homes.


Anyone can volunteer.


Volunteers are reimbursed for gas mileage and are insured under the counties workers compensation program.

Free dance lessons offered at gym every Wednesday


Free dance lessons are offered for seniors aged 70 and older at 10:30 a.m. every Wednesday at World Gym on Fairview Drive.


Gym membership is not necessary.
