Pickpockets in National pool event
The Pickpockets will be leaving Carson City in the coming weeks to battle for the $25,000 first place prize at the 2007 APA 8-Ball National Team Championship-Open Division, conducted by the American Poolplayers Association, also known as APA.
"We're all very excited and eager to play in such a colossal event," Pickpockets team member Michael Pena said. "In January when we first discovered there was a new league in the area, we were hesitant to start a new team. The format and rules were different than most of us were used to.
"We decided to give it a chance and gained so much more than we imagined. This league is all about having fun and I can honestly say a win or a loss, we always do (have fun). We have met a lot of great people, won some very nice trophies, and also won over a $1,000 in prize money at the local championships back in May. Now we're on our way to win $25,000!"
The Pickpockets team will join more than 650 other qualified Open Division teams from North America that will be traveling to the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Aug. 20-25, to compete for the Open Division national title and a portion of more than $600,000 in guaranteed prize money.
The Pickpockets are members of the APA Pool League and participate in weekly league play at the Ormsby House. Team members are: Allen Ballard, Pena, David Scheideman, Mark Fitzsimmons, Robert Haddix, Dan Dauber and Chris Wood.
