Arnold S. Abalos

Arnold S. Abalos, 90, a six-year resident of Carson City, died July 30, 2007, in Reno. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elko.

Mr. Abalos was born Aug. 23, 1916, to Jose M. Abalos and Josefina Pimentel Abalos in Los Guayes, Mexico.

Prior to moving to Carson City, Mr. Abalos lived in Elko. He married JoEllen Hammond Sweetwood, in July 1966 in Elko. He worked for the State of Nevada at the Nevada Youth Training Center.

He served as a Staff. Sgt. with the Army Air Corp, 55th Fighter Squadron during World War II. He was past Post Commander for VFW Post 2350. Abalos enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by sister, Christina, and brother, Raymond.

Among his survivors are his wife of Carson City; sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Marie Sweetwood, David and Brenda Sweetwood, daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Bruce Andersen, Connie and Jim Meeks, Kriss and Jim Stillman, Laurie and Marty Coblentz, Laura and Chris Priaulx; sisters, Josephine Kley, Virginia Waddell, and Mary Toyn, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to VFW Post 2350, P.O. Box 1266, Elko, Nev. 89803 or a charity of your choice.

Burns Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
