Sue Lamon came by to remind me that Saturday is the Joey Cusumano rummage sale. She also wanted to thank our community for the outpouring of kindness for Joey.
Thank you to everyone who has helped out this little boy, who is fighting Hodgkins lymphoma. You can help by checking out the merchandise and purchasing a few items. If you still have items to donate, drop them off Saturday at the site.

This event is a great way to recognize so many wonderful and hard-working individuals.
From Humanitarian of the Year to Organization of the Year, all of the 12 Community Awards categories represent people who have helped others or achieved excellence in some area.
The finalists have been selected, and I feel sorry for the judging committee because there are so many special people in each category that narrowing it down to one will be difficult.
Nevada first lady Dawn Gibbons and Nevada Appeal publisher John DiMambro will be presenting the awards at a banquet Tuesday.

Check out the Washoe County Regional Park Web site for activities. You can check out who's playing at the summer concert series, such as the one I went to on the lawn at Hawkins Amphitheater.
It also has a ton of free events for children to do this summer, including heading over to Bower's Mansion Saturday so little ones can learn how to make a pine cone bird feeder.

Pencils for Peace
Project update
Gary Lyon sent me an update on the Pencils for Peace Program and photos of the recent delivery of books and school supplies donated by Fremont Elementary and the Carson City Library to Afghan children.
Attached was a note from "Guy on the Ground" Dean Miller: "The headmasters at both schools were told these were gifts from American school children who wanted the children of Afghanistan to be successful. It was all appreciated very much."
If you want to check out the photos, drop me a line, and I will send them to you. Excellent job by all the children at Fremont, who have learned that there are no barriers, color, religious beliefs or judgment when providing another a hand in receiving an education.
NEXT WEEK: Fourth of July at the Comstock, the Carson Downtown Wine walk with a special event at the Brewery Arts Center.
