An American bald eagle was recently found shot to death at the Indian Lakes complex, near Twin Lake, said John Swisher, game warden with the Nevada Department of Wildlife Fallon office.
He also said one of the bird's legs was removed and the tail feathers were missing. The bird has been dead for some time, so Swisher was unable to determine what type of weapon was used.
According to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Web site, the bald eagle is protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, which prohibits the possession, sale or purchase of any bald to golden eagle, alive or dead, including any part, nest or egg.
Swisher said a reward will be offered for information concerning the case. People can also call Operation Game Thief at 1-800-992-3030.
