Fish and Wildlife Service officials are looking for the person who killed a golden eagle along Jones Creek in the Galena Regional Park.

A spokesman said the eagle was found dead and tied to a tree earlier this summer.

Both golden and bald eagles are protected under federal law. Those laws prohibit not only killing but taking, possessing or selling the eagles or any of their body parts.

Anyone with information about the death of that eagle is asked to contact Operation Game Thief at 1-800-992-3030. Or they can contact the USFWS Office of Law Enforcement in Reno at 861-6360.

An award of up to $2,500 can be paid for information leading to the prosecution and conviction of violations of the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act.
