Carson Tennis Club has head pro

For the first time, the Carson Tennis Club will have a head pro to direct all of its activites this summer.

Lauren Hulse has already begun her duties as Carson City's Head Tennis Pro. She has already begun to provide lessons and will continue to teach throughout the summer.

Hulse came to Carson City as part of her studies at Methodist University in Fayetville, N.C. Hulse, who will be entering her senior year at Methodist this fall, is studying professional tennis management. She is studying to earn a business degree with an emphasis on professional tennis management.

Hulse also plays No. 5 singles and No. 2 doubles for the Methodist women's tennis team, which advanced to the round of 32 in the NCAA Division III Championships this past season. Hulse, who is originally from Chicago, has been playing tennis for seven years and has experience teaching at Greenbrier Resort, a prestigious resort in West Virginia, and at one New York's top junior camps. Hulse is a certified United States Professional Tennis Association teacher.

"I absolutely love it out here," Hulse said. "I love teaching tennis and I love getting people involved in tennis. I'm just excited to be out here and getting Carson City a little more excited about tennis."

Hulse will be offering junior and adult lessons. Junior lessons will be offered for beginning, intermediate and advanced players.

There will be sessions for preschool-first grade, elementary (second through fifth grades) and middle school (sixth through eighth grades). Sessions will be offered from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday and Friday for preschool/first grade. 10-11 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday for elementary and 10-11 a.m. Wednesday and Friday for middle school.

Sessions will be twice a week for five weeks. The first session will be begin on June 12 and the second session will begin on July 17. Cost for each session is $50.

An adult session for a different level on each night will also be held every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m., beginning June 5. The first hour will consist of lessons and the second hour will consist of match play. Cost for each session is $10.

All of the lessons will be held at Centennial Park. And Hulse stressed that anyone can use whatever Centennial Park tennis courts are available for free at any time.

Along with the lessons, there will also be social events, including a demo day for Dunlap rackets at a still to be determined date. There's also a full working pro shop at the Centennial courts in which stringing can be done and Hulse said merchandise will be sold at Centennial as well.
