A 61-year-old Wellington woman is set to appear in East Fork Justice Court on Oct. 31 charged with theft in the disappearance of $177,000 from Campora Propane.
Michele Baligad, who worked for the company from 2000 until the alleged embezzlement was uncovered in 2006, reportedly told investigators she took the money to finance a gambling addiction.
Court records indicate the theft occurred from January 2005 until December 2006.
Investigators said Baligad took cash receipts which she tried to cover when checks came in. She reportedly changed customers' addresses to her own address so they wouldn't receive overdue notices.
The theft was uncovered when other employees contacted customers about late payments and were told their bills had been paid.
• A 19-year-old Minden man was cited for second offense driving under the influence, minor consuming and hit and run after he tried to drive home following a collision with light pole in Carson City.
Jason Casey Bonesteel was arrested Sept. 21 after officers stopped him for driving without a headlight and taillight.
Deputies said his vehicle had substantial damage and it was obvious the driver - Bonesteel - had hit the windshield.
He had numerous cuts and bruises and a preliminary blood-alcohol content of .233, nearly three times the legal limit of .08 for driving in Nevada.
Bonesteel reportedly told deputies he and his passenger - also 19 with a preliminary blood-alcohol content of .135 - were on their way home from a party in Carson City.
He told officers a vehicle pulled out in front of him in Carson City and he hit a light pole as he swerved to avoid the car. He said he thought he could make it home.
He was treated for injuries at Carson Valley Medical center.
