Carson City


Free rides home on Labor Day


AAA offers tipsy drivers a free ride home 6 p.m.-6 a.m. Monday for the Labor Day Holiday. Drivers just need to call 800-222-4357 and tell the AAA operator "I need a Tipsy Tow," and a truck will be on its way.


The service will provide a free one-way ride of up to five miles for the driver and vehicle to the driver's home. If there are additional passengers they will be taken to the driver's home.


Library screening 'Fahrenheit 451'


Carson City Library will present the 1966 film version of Ray Bradbury's classic novel, Fahrenheit 451, 2:00 p.m. Sept. 8. Carson City Library's teen advisory board is hosting this thought provoking event. The film is being shown as part of Northern Nevada Reads, a project of the Big Read. Ball gowns highlight Tin Cup Tea


Nevada's First Ladies' inaugural ball gowns will be on display Saturday from 5 -10 p.m. at the Governor's Mansion at the Tin Cup Tea and Chuck Wagon Barbecue. The gowns are part of the permanent collection of the Marjorie Russell Clothing and Textile Research Center. The Tin Cup Tea is a fundraiser for the Nevada State Museum and the W.M. Keck Earth Science and Mineral Engineering Museum at the Mackay School of Earth Sciences and Engineering. The cost to attend is $50 per person. Call 687-4810.


Silver Saddle Ranch hosts birding trip and breakfast


Lahontan Audubon Society and Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch are sponsoring a birding trip 7:30 p.m. Saturday, at Silver Saddle Ranch in Carson City. Plan to spend the morning exploring the ranch for birds and learning a little about the ranch history.


A diverse number of bird species can be observed in varied habitat including sagebrush, agricultural lands and a riparian corridor adjacent to the Carson River. Free and open to the public. Register for the trip with leader Nancy Santos at 884-1570 or nancylas@att.net.


Immediately following the bird walk, field trip participants are invited to the annual Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch Breakfast, with donations for Silver Saddle Ranch appreciated.


NDOW expands customer service


The Nevada Department of Wildlife's boating customers in the Carson City area will soon see expanded customer service. Beginning Wednesday, service will be provided every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the Department of Motor Vehicle Office located at 555 Wright Way, Carson City. Heading to jail for dogs


DAWG's Animal Awareness Day 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the Douglas Country Fairgrounds. Retired Douglas County Animal Control Officer Nancee Goldwater will be behind bars at the annual "It's a DAWG's Day Animal Awareness Event."


Unlike her "jail mates," who will solicit donations to bail them out, the more that is donated in Goldwater's name, the longer she'll remain in the on-stage cage.


A silent auction will feature items ranging from overnight stays at casino hotels and gourmet dinners, to manicures, golfing, gift baskets, a glider ride and more.


An on-site, low cost microchip clinic will offer pet lovers the chance to have tiny microchips implanted in their four-legged friends for a bargain $30. Pet photography, a pet psychic, Adele's, Entertainment Books, plenty of good food, vendors with animal and pet related goods, DAWG logo items, a raffle and door prizes will also be featured.
