Emery 'Bud' Schafer

Emery "Bud" Schafer, 78, an 18-year resident of Carson City, died Sept. 7, 2007, at his home.

No services will be held.

Mr. Schafer was born in Bloomington, Ill., on October 1, 1928, and was the son of Lawrence and Ella Schafer. He married Carol Jo Reynolds, of Long Point, Ill., on October 21, 1951.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in La Grange Park, Ill.

Mr. Schafer worked as a manager for Illinois Bell Telephone for 35 years, retiring in 1985. Mr. Schafer served in the Army and graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1951, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.

He loved singing barbershop music and was a member of the Carson City SPEBSQSA chapter. He also was a volunteer with Meals-on-Wheels and was a bell-ringer for the Salvation Army.

Mr. Schafer is survived by daughter and son-in-law Susan and Wayne van der Naald, of Oregon City, Ore.; sons and daughters-in-law Robert and Patricia Schafer of Ocala, Fla., James and Lauren Schafer of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; sister Dorothy Metcalf, of Bloomington, Ill., and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Schafer will be interred at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Bloomington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Central Florida Chapter, 279 Douglas Avenue Ste. 1108, Altamonte Springs, Fla. 32714.

Capital City cremation in charge of arrangements.
