Scrapbooking class at Senior Center


Learn how to quickly preserve your memories and photos into safe, meaningful albums. There will be a class at 9 a.m. on Tuesday in the Pinion Pines Room at the Carson City Senior Citizens Center. Bring a few photos to make a sampler. Cost is $5. Call 885-8230.




DAR chapter meeting is Wednesday


The Battle Born Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet at noon Wednesday at B'Sghetti's Restaurant, 318 N. Carson St.


Women interested in volunteer work involving educational issues, patriotism and history are invited to attend. Genealogical assistance is available for potential members of the DAR.

Major local blood drive coming up




The Unity in the Community annual Blood Drive will be 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday at United Blood Services, 256 E. Winnie Lane.


Community executives and dignitaries are invited to donate blood and provide the community with the gift of life. The organization with the most blood donations, will receive the Annual Unity in the Community Blood Drive trophy. Become a volunteer tour guide


The education program at the Nevada State Museum presents History as Performance, a free, four-day volunteer tour guide training program from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and Sept. 25-26.


Training begins Tuesday, with some light theatrical instruction, using voice, gesture and timing to engage visitors of all ages. No experience is necessary.

Street Vibrations begins Wednesday


For everyone's safety during Street Vibrations beginning Wednesday watch for motorcycles, 30,000 bikers are anticipated for Street Vibrations 14th anniversary.


When you're driving you sometimes can't see a motorcycle. You might hear a bike before you see it. Don't let it be too late.


Those motorcycle enthusiasts will contribute heavily to our local economy during their stay. Don't meet up with them by accident.


Workshop on protecting homes from wildfires


Homeowners, landscapers, Realtors, and others are invited to learn how to best protect homes from the threat of wildfire at a free University of Nevada Cooperative Extension workshop.


The "Protecting Homes From Wildfire" workshop will be offered 8 a.m.-noon Tuesday at the University of Nevada, Reno Redfield Campus. Participants can also go on a walking field trip following the training at 1 p.m., where they will see some wildfire hazards and learn more about them.
