Tee off to 'raise the roof' at benefit tournament


First Presbyterian Church will hold a benefit golf tournament beginning at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 4 at Empire Ranch Golf Course.


Check-in is at 8:30 a.m. with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.


Entry fee is $100 per player or $400 per foursome. Deadline for registration is Sept. 20.


Included in fee is greens fee, cart, lunch (at 1 p.m.), trophies, door prizes, two beverage tickets and a goodie bag. Also available are raffles, mulligans and hole prizes.


Proceeds benefit First Presbyterian Church's "Raise the Roof" sanctuary raising fund. For reservations, information, call 884-2900.


Reception for sculptors Thursday at courthouse


A reception will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday for Capital City Arts Initiative featured artists sculptors Robert Morrison and Tamara Scronce. The reception will be at the Carson City Courthouse, 885 E. Musser St. Admission is free.


The exhibition runs through Dec. 14. The gallery is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For information visit www.arts-initiative.org.


Bachelor and bachelorettes up for auction Friday


The Carson City Active 20-30 is hosting Carson City's Most Eligible Bachelor & Bachelorette Auction benefiting the Carson-Tahoe Neo-Natal Nursery and Families for Effective Autism Treatment, 6 p.m. Friday at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St.


The auction will be hosted by Kat Simmons, a veteran of the national comedy club circuit. Tickets are $15 and are available online at breweryarts.org or at D'Vine Wine & Bistro, corner of Stewart and Musser streets, 882-7766.


'Peace Project,' dancers appear at Comma Coffee


World Dance Open Floor Night and Comma Coffee present "Peace Project," performed by Wild Horse Children's Theater's touring company. This special evening of music will take place on the International Day of Peace, 8 p.m. Friday.


Wild Horse Children's Theater will be presenting songs and dances from their touring company "Peace Project."


This cast of 12 young actors will be performing free of charge at local schools through a grant from Ben and Jerry's Foundation. Any type of dancer is invited to come share their dance. Signups start at 7 p.m. and are limited to 7 minutes for solos and 10 minutes for groups.


Join the "Peace Project" in promoting world peace through music and dance. The evening is free and donations are welcome and will benefit Wild Horse Children's Theater's scholarship program. Call 887-0438 or see www.wildhorsetheater.com.

Living with Fire workshop in Gardnerville


Personnel from the East Fork Fire and Paramedic District present "Living with Fire" 7 p.m. Thursday at the Carson Valley Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville.


The Living with Fire program was developed to inform Nevadans about how they can live safer in high fire-hazard environments. Living with Fire is not a wildfire-prevention program.
