Oodles of Noodles cooks sought

The Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce is calling for contestants to join the seventh annual Oodles of Noodles Cookoff on May 10.

The entry fee is $50 until April 30, $65 after that date. This event is a one-day event that combines good food and vendor and business booths.

The event will be held in Old Town Dayton on Logan Way and Pike Street. Set up on Friday afternoon is recommended. Booths will open at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning. For information and application visit www.daytonnvchamber.org or call 246-7909.

DHS Boosters host golf tournament

Dayton High School Booster Club's 14th Annual Golf Tournament will be April 27 at the Dayton Valley Golf Club, 101 Palmer Drive, Dayton.

The cost is $85, and there are many prizes. Call 750-4925 for details.

Vendors sought for Dayton Valley Days

The 20th annual Dayton Valley Days will be Sept. 20-21 and will honor the buildings of yesterday with the theme, "Old Places, New Faces."

The Dayton Station, the historical railroad depot will be included, along with the other buildings from the community's past.

Money raised goes to the continued restoration of historic Old Town Dayton and aiding organizations that provide Christmas gifts to those in need, provide prevention and intervention, scholarships and provide support to other needs of the community. Call 246-3378 for a booth or other information.

Silver Springs

Fly-In looking for vendors

The 13th Annual Lyon County Fly-In will be held May 17-18 at the Lyon County Regional Airport in Silver Springs with the theme, "Kids in Aviation."

Booth space is $50 for craft booths and $65 for commercial. The cost for nonprofit groups is $20.

Space is available 10-foot-by-10-foot booths. Applications can be obtained at www.lyoncountyflyin.com, or by calling 887-1294.

One of the big draws to the event is the "Young Eagles" program, which allows youths ages 8-17 years old to experience flying with an experienced pilot.

Ham radio exams in Stagecoach

Regularly scheduled testing sessions for Amateur Radio Licenses are now available for the first time in Stagecoach. Volunteer examiners will be available every other month on the second Saturday of the even-numbered months.

The next session will be 8 a.m.-noon Saturday at 8755 Cimarron Trail. Those upgrading an existing license should bring the original license and a photocopy, as well as the originals of any CSCEs.

Sessions scheduled for 2008 are: Saturday, June 14, Aug. 9, Oct. 11, and Dec. 13. All sessions are sanctioned by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) who is the VEC. Contact Jack Ruckman, AC6FU, at P.O. Box 309, Silver Springs, NV 89429, or at 577-2637.

Virginia City

Chili Cookoff seeking cooks

Virginia City's International Chili Cookoff, an International Chili Society regional contest, is looking for chili cooks.

Cooks will compete for cash prizes for their red chili, green chili and salsa. There is also a People's Choice competition.

The event will be held May 3 at the Bucket of Blood parking lot on C and Union streets in Virginia City. For more information, call 847-9016.

Dinner event has Cajun theme

Another in the series of International Dinners prepared by Heather Beaupre of Secret Service Catering will be held 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Edith Palmer's Country Inn, 416 South B St., Virginia City.

This Cajun dinner will feature crawfish pie, chicken in pepper and cheese sauce, steamed rice vegetables mousseline and bread pudding with Chantilly cream. Cost is $24, reservations necessary. Call 847-7070.

Painting class offered at St. Mary's

Play your way to creating some new and unusual paintings at a Creative Painting class with Pam Brekas 9 a.m.-4 p.m. April 18-19 at St. Mary's Art Center, 55 North R St., Virginia City.
