Misfits offer political melodrama

"To Drill or Not To Drill, or Big Bucks Don't Always Win," a political melodrama will be performed by the Misfits Theatre Group from 7:30-9:30 today and Saturday at the Odeon Hall, above Chuck's Old West Grill, 65 Pike St., Dayton. Tickets are $10. Call 246-9622.

Oodles of Noodles cooks sought

The Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce is calling for contestants to join the seventh annual Oodles of Noodles Cookoff on May 10.

The entry fee is $50 until April 30, $65 after that date. This event is a one-day event that combines good food and vendor and business booths.

The event will be held in Old Town Dayton on Logan Way and Pike Street. Set up on Friday afternoon is recommended. Booths will open at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. For information and application, visit www.daytonnvchamber.org or call 246-7909.

DHS boosters host golf tournament

Dayton High School Booster Club's 14th Annual Golf Tournament will be Sunday at the Dayton Valley Golf Club, 101 Palmer Drive, Dayton.

Vendors sought for Dayton Valley Days

The 20th annual Dayton Valley Days will be Sept. 20-21 and will honor the buildings of yesterday with the theme, "Old Places, New Faces."

The Dayton Station, the historical railroad depot will be included, along with the other buildings from the community's past.

Money raised goes to the continued restoration of historic Old Town Dayton and aiding organizations that provide Christmas gifts to those in need, provide prevention and intervention, scholarships and provide support to other needs of the community. Call 246-3378 for a booth or other information.

Smith Valley artist's work on display

Giclee prints done by Laurie Nelson of Smith Valley will be displayed at the Lyon County Dayton Gallery through May 2.

The Dayton Gallery is in the Lyon County Services Office located at Occidental Square in Building No. 2, Suite 201, on Highway 50 in Dayton.

Gold Hill

New Follies show features women

"Just the Girls and a Few Token Men" is a show offers song, dance and comedy in a dinner performance directed by Redarle Baker.

It will be performed at 7 p.m. Fridays May 1-23 at the Gold Hill Hotel, 1540 Main St., Gold Hill.

Silver Springs

Fly-in looking for event vendors

The 13th Annual Lyon County Fly-In will be held May 17-18 at the Lyon County Regional Airport in Silver Springs with the theme, "Kids in Aviation."

Booth space is $50 for craft booths and $65 for commercial booths. The cost for nonprofit groups is $20.

One of the big draws to the event is the "Young Eagles" program, which allows youths ages 8-17 years old to experience flying with an experienced pilot.

Wellness fair set for Saturday

A Wellness Fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Silver Springs High School 3755 West Spruce Ave., Silver Springs, and will include free autism and developmental screenings.

The fair is being sponsored by the Silver Stage Task Force and Stand Tall, both are funded by Healthy Communities.

Wranglers to celebrate river

The Carson River Festival, a family-friendly event, will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. May 10 at Fort Churchill State Historic Park on Fort Churchill Road in Silver Springs.

Teens from local high schools are planning a variety of activities. Crafts, history programs, nature programs, hiking, birding, face painting and interactive models will be available.

Festival-goers should bring a picnic lunch to enjoy along the banks of the Carson River or at one of the many picnic areas. A concession stand will also be available to purchase food.

Chili Cookoff seeking cooks

Virginia City's International Chili Cookoff, an International Chili Society regional contest, is looking for chili cooks.

Cooks will compete for cash prizes for their red chili, green chili and salsa. There is also a people's choice competition.

Children's author to hold book signing

Children's book author Mary Jean Kelso of Fernley and illustrator K.C. Snider will be at the Mark Twain Bookstore from 11 to 3 p.m. May 4 to sign copies of a children's book.

The book, "Andy and the Albino Horse" is about a special-needs boy who meets a mustang that has been adopted and trained in equine therapy.

They form a bond that will take them on many adventures together.

Youth Service Day Saturday at Piper's

A music revival celebrating Global Youth Service Day will be held at Piper's Opera House at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Community Chest, Inc. and the Global Voice Project are partnering with the Tahoe Truckee Alliance for the Musical Arts to present the revival, called "Conviction of the Heart."

The concert will feature more than 20 local musicians playing songs from the '60s through the '90s.

There will be a light dinner and silent auction at 6 p.m., with the music to follow at 7 p.m.

All proceeds benefit young musicians and Global Voice youth. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Youth who serve during Global Youth Service Day will be admitted for $10.

Back Forty to play at Piper's barbecue

The Back Forty bluegrass band will perform at "An Afternoon of Bluegrass and Barbecue" at 4 p.m. Sunday at Piper's Opera House in Virginia City.

Home-brewed in Nevada, the Back Forty offers warm and lonesome harmonies with five signature instruments: banjo, mandolin, fiddle, guitar and bass.

This purebred bluegrass group blends a fusion of traditional and old-time styles to be enjoyed by all.

The band will be inside and the barbecue will be outside the opera house at 12 North B St.

Tickets are $25 for the show and barbecue, and $15 for the show only.
