A planned unit development that would include five private water ski lakes and 54 homes on 160 acres in Wabuska will be considered by the Lyon County Commission.

The commission will hear a presentation from Brad Jamieson and representatives of Diamond Hot Springs and Homestretch Energy LLC, at their meeting Thursday.

The proposed project will be located off Julian Lane, and plans call for swimming areas, walking paths, boats, sandy beaches and an airstrip.

The applicants are also seeking a zone change from industrial to residential planned unit development use.

In written comments to the commission, County Manager Dennis Stark recommends approval of the project for reasons that include current economic conditions, a lack of other viable projects in the area, no density issues and highest and best use of the land.

The Lyon County Planning Commission failed to approve the project at its April 8 meeting. The planning department also recommended denial of the request.

A master plan amendment has been approved for the area.
