Michelle "Mickie" Leeper Newby, 59, passed away in Carson City on December 3, 2007, after her quiet bout with cancer.
Mickie was born on June 24, 1948, and grew up in Sunland-Tujunga, Calif. She attended Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School, and in 1967 graduated from Villa Cabrini Academy in Burbank. She married Richard Miles Newby in 1973. They later moved to the Antelope Valley of California before settling in Carson City, which Mickie felt to be her true home. She loved to walk in her downtown neighborhood and make friends, of which she had many. She enjoyed everything and everyone: the Victorian houses, her friends in the shops, the staff and people at the Nevada State Museum and the local casinos.
Her husband and family wish to thank the unidentified Good Samaritan who found her and called for help on the day she took her final walk. Mickie joins her mother June and her father Bob Leeper in heaven.
She is survived by her loving family: husband Rich; her youngest son Jef of Oxnard, California; her older son, Rich Jr., and his three children, Jef, Hailey, and Kaia; and their mother, Shannon DeCorse, of Gardnerville; Mickie 's sister Susan and brother-in-law Ralph Gerrard of Ventura, and her many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A memorial was held in December at the Elks Club in Carson City. Donations can be made in Mickie 's memory to the Nevada State Museum in Carson City. Arrangements were handled by Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City.
