Carson City


Canadian to speak on art at library


Nevada Neighbors, the Capital City Arts Initiative's series of presentations on contemporary art, will feature Brenda Cleniuk at 7 p.m. today in "True North: Art in Canada," a talk at the Carson City Library, 900 N. Roop St.


There will be an informal reception for Cleniuk at the library at 6:15 p.m. The talk is free. Cleniuk is the director of Neutral Ground, a major center for experimental art in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. See www.arts-initiative.org/index.html


Lunar Eclipse viewing tonight


Western Nevada College's Jack C. Davis observatory hosts a lunar eclipse viewing at 7 p.m. today.


The earth's shadow will fall across the moon and will be viewed through telescopes at the observatory. For information, call 445-3235.


State museum opens new exhibits


The Nevada State Museum announces the opening of the exhibit "Selections from the Collections," featuring popular museum favorites, new donations and plans for future galleries in a combined exhibit from the Anthropology, History and Natural History program collections.


Datsolalee's degikup baskets form the centerpiece for Anthropology's "Selections from the Collections."


The museum will offer a series of gallery walks to interpret the pieces in the exhibit. The first gallery walk will focus on natural history and be led by Curator George Baumgardner at 1:30 p.m. today. To register, contact Deborah Stevenson at 687-4810, ext. 237.


The museum is open from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. daily. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, and free for children younger than age 18. Call 687-4810.


Water Subconservancy board meets today


The Carson Water Subconservancy District Board meeting will be 6:30 p.m. today in Room 1214 of the Nevada State Legislative Building, 401 S. Carson St.


Dan Kaffer will be presented with the 2008 Andy Aldax Carson River Watershed Award for exemplary service in conservation and protection of the Carson River Watershed.

Religious poems wanted


Poems from Carson City-area poets are sought by the Sacramento Rainbow Poets.

Carson Valley Genealogy Group meets


Carson Valley Genealogy Group will meet 9 a.m.-noon Thursday at the Minden Library, 1625 Library Lane.


Janice Frost will conduct a workshop covering US Census Records. This is a vital source of information about the family.

Signing of charter and declaration of Douglas TRIAD


The 12th signing of the charter and declaration of the Douglas County Nevada TRIAD will be held at Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane, Gardnerville, at 11:30 a.m. today.
