Volunteers needed at Carson High Library


Volunteers are needed in Carson High Library to offer expanded hours for Carson High School students. Currently, the Carson High School Library closes at 1:50 p.m. Students are unable to use the library after school. A pilot project on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1:50-3:30 p.m. has been offered by Mr. Perdomo, Principal. For information, call 283-1940.




Community Renewal Project Nevada meeting Wednesday


A town hall meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Carson Valley Christian Center, 1095 Stephanie Way in Minden to present the Community Renewal Project Nevada.


Nevada nonprofits are welcome to participate in free trainings and technical assistance along with an opportunity to apply for grant funding through the Community Renewal Project Nevada.


Nonprofit leaders (faith-based and community-based) and community members are welcome to attend and ask questions to learn about the program and the impact it will have in Carson City and Nevada.


The Web site for the project is www.communityrenewalproject.org.


CRP-NV is made possible through a partnership between Reno-based consulting firm Faith-Based Solutions (FBS; www.faith-based-solutions.com) and the Department of Health & Human Services.


In 2007, FBS was selected as one of less than 40 organizations nationwide to present this training and technical assistance program in their community. This is the first time this program has come to Nevada.




Clothing drive under way through April 15


H&R Block and Big Brothers Big Sisters have teamed up for a clothing driving now through April 15. Donate your gently used clothing. All sizes needed. All donations go directly to benefit Northern Nevada Children served by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada and are tax deductible. Drop your tax deductible donations off at the following H&R Block offices in Carson City: 3853 S. Carson St.; 1426 E. Williams St., Ste. 5; in Minden: 1758 Hwy 395, Unit H. Kindergarten registration begins soon for Carson district


Kindergarten Registration for the Carson City School District begins the week of March 3. A child who is 5 years of age on or before Sept. 30 of 2008-2009 school year may be admitted to kindergarten. The following must be provided to register a child: A birth certificate and immunization record, including Hepatitis vaccination must be submitted at the time of registration. Proof of residency (power bill, gas bill, water bill, voter registration, etc.) in Carson City School District is required at the time of registration. Contact your neighborhood school for additional information.




Lyon Republican convention set


Lyon County Republican Convention will be held March 1 at the Yerington High School gymnasium, 114 Pearl St. Registration begins 9:30 a.m.; convention convenes at 10 a.m. For information call 575-4058 or 246-1520.




Workshop on volunteer retention Feb. 28


A mini-workshop on secrets to attracting and keeping volunteers will be hosted by the Nevada Farm Bureau 4-7 p.m. Feb. 28 at the Douglas County Library, 1625 Library Lane, Minden. Seating is limited to the first 20 registrants; cost is $10. For information call 782-9960 or 753-6993.
