Carson City


WNC offering help applying for financial assistance


Western Nevada College is offering a free workshop 6-8 p.m. tonight in the Cedar Building, Room 331A of the Carson City campus to help potential students fill out financial assistance paperwork. College personnel will help the public fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid which is required to qualify for many types of college financial aid. Spanish speaker assistance will be available. For information, call 445-3264.


Carson City Babe Ruth taking applications through March 15


Sign ups for Carson City Babe Ruth Baseball are being accepted through March 15 at tryouts. Men and women ages 13-18 and living in the Carson City area and men and women ages 16-18 living in Carson City, Lyon County, Storey County, South Lake Tahoe, Minden, Gardnerville, Topaz, Walker are invited to tryouts at 9 a.m. at Governor's Field. Recycled Art works sought for art show


Western Nevada College's annual Recycled Art(icles) show begins March 3-April 4. Works of recycled art may be submitted Monday-Thursday at the college information desk in the lobby of the Bristlecone Building. Creativity reigns as local artists of all ages produce amazing pieces. Awards will be given at the artists' reception on Friday, April 4, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. For information call 445-3274.

Tahoe Meadows


Trekking Tahoe Meadows


A free trek of Tahoe Meadows will be offered by the U.S. Forest Service 10 a.m. Saturday. Meet at the west end of Tahoe Meadows on the south side of the Mt. Rose Highway (NV431). Each guided snowshoe/ski trek travels to a scenic overlook of Lake Tahoe last about 2-3 hours. For information, call 884-8103.

"Gypsy" coming to Pioneer Center


One of the best musicals of all time, "Gypsy" entertains at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts on Feb. 29 Ð March 2.


The performance schedule is Friday, 8 p.m., Saturday 2 and 8 p.m., Sunday, 2 and 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the Pioneer Center box office or at www.pioneercenter.com or at (877) 840-0457. Ticket prices range from $35 to $70 and are subject to service charges. Groups of 20 or more should call (775) 686-6600.
