Wine tasting set at Locals Barbecue

Auditions Jan. 26 for 'The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe'


Wild Horse Children's Theater announces auditions for their spring production of C.S. Lewis' The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Auditions, for children ages 5 to 15, will be held beginning at 10 a.m. Jan. 26 at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada, 813 N. Carson Street. To sign up for an audition call 887-0438.


Dog obedience classes offered


Need help in establishing good conduct and curbing bad habits in your canine friend? The next dog obedience class taught by Guy Yeaman begins 6:30 p.m. Jan. 29 at the Fuji Park Exhibit Hall. Cost for the six-week session is $75. For information or to register, call 265-4530.




Volunteers to teach computer skills at senior center sought


Volunteers are needed to assist in teaching entry level computer skills to seniors at the Carson City Senior Citizens Center.


Introduction to Computer classes are designed to provide senior citizens with the basic skills needed to function with computers. Internet and e-mail skills are included. Classes are scheduled twice weekly, two hours per class, for four weeks.


Those interested should possess basic computer skills and enjoy working with people. Classes are conducted at the senior center, 911 Beverly Drive. Call 883-0703, ext. 222.


Battle Born daughters to host meeting Jan. 16


The Battle Born Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet at noon Jan. 16 at B'Sghetti's Restaurant, 318 N. Carson St.


Women interested in volunteer work involving educational issues, patriotism and history are invited to attend. Genealogical assistance is available for potential members of the DAR.

Public education forum Thursday


The Nevada Alliance for Academic Excellence will hold a forum titled "Labeling Children, Psychotropic Drugs, Mental Health Screening" on Thursday from 6:30Ð9:30 p.m. in the Nevada Room at the Governor's Mansion, 600 Mountain St.


Featured in the program will be a video titled "The Dangers of Universal Mental Health Screening," and two speakers. Cassandra Casey, an activist for Parents' Rights, will talk about drug awareness and the importance of "full and informed consent."


Teresa Rhoades, co-founder of Parents against TeenScreen, will share her personal story against mental health screenings of children.
