A Carson City man faces sentencing today in connection with a February 2006 vandalism spree that ended in the Gardnerville Ranchos.
David Scott Killen, 23, admitted he shot out windows in cars and businesses in Douglas County and Carson City with a BB gun and a wrist rocket.
He was pulled over in the Gardnerville Ranchos after he shot at a vehicle driven by Stephanie Carney at the intersection of Riverview and Dresslerville. Carney and her teenage daughter were unhurt, and she was able to identify Killen as the shooter.
Killen pleaded guilty to one count of willful injury to property on Oct. 8 in Douglas District Court. He faces up to one year in jail and a $2,000 fine.
Killen also faces felony charges of opening and reading sealed letters in Carson City.
He and two other men were arrested Dec. 9 after a homeowner reported to police that he'd heard his mailbox opening at 2:30 a.m. and when he went outside he saw a vehicle driving away.
The man said he followed the vehicle and witnessed the passenger jump in and out of the car and rifle through mailboxes each time the car would stop.
When police pulled the vehicle over, Killen was at the wheel, and Dylan Gregory and Tristan Ledford were passengers.
Mail allegedly found inside the vehicle and statements made after their arrests indicated the trio was looking for credit card applications and holiday cards containing money.
