Carson 10s softball wins tournament

The Carson 10 and under softball team came together in a month and a half to win its fourth tournament in Reno after competing in events in Susanville, Calif., Reno and Yerington.

In its last tournament, Carson went 1-2 in pool play, losing to Sparks 2-0, Reno Fastpitch 7-6 and beating the North Valleys Nightmare 11-2. Carson then beat Sparks 5-3 to reach the championship game against Reno.

Reno took a 6-0 lead in the first inning, but Carson came back to take a 9-7 lead behind the offense of Bethany Kniffen, Brianna Alvarado, Haley Gray and Gage Jackson. Carson also received srong defense from Gray, Gabbi Winder and Douglas.

In the last inning, Reno singled and doubled to close to within 9-7. But Lacey Peternell struck out the side to seal the win.

The team credited its success to the support of the Carson Girls Softball Association, the Carson Sharks and the parents and coaches.
