Commission candidate event set

Supporters of Lyon County Commission District I candidate Donna Kristaponis will hold an event for their candidate from 5 to 7 p.m. July 30 at J's Bistro, Main Street, Dayton.

Fundraiser for area youth programs

Poker players can raise funds for the Central Lyon Youth Connection from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the River Vista Complex on Old Dayton Valley Road in Dayton.

Buy-in is $250, and prizes include a two-day poker camp at the World Series of Poker Academy. Numerous prizes including poker memorabilia, dinners, trips, and more.

Gold Hill

Theater to perform 'The Tempest'

Shakespeare on the Rocks is back at the Gold Hill Hotel as the Gold Hill Theater Troupe performs "The Tempest."

The play will be performed in the gazebo across Main Street from the hotel building at 8 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from Thursday to Aug. 9.

Cost for Thursdays is $15 for general admission and $20 for reserved seating; for Fridays and Saturdays it is $25 for general admission and $30 for reserved.

Playgroup, goodie bags available

Family to Family Offers Playgroup and Goodie Bags for Parents will be at Vondel Rose Park in Mound House in July.

Carlyn Grocholski of Lyon County's Family to Family will host a free playgroup for Mound House families with preschoolers at the Vondel Rose Park on Red Rock Road on Thursday at 11 a.m. Grocholski will offer snacks and fun activities for youngsters as well as goodie bags for parents who attend.

Silver City

Fireman's Ball planned for July 26

The first Fireman's Ball since the fire that destroyed the Silver City Schoolhouse Community Center will take place at 4 p.m. July 26 in Silver City.

The 2008 Fireman's Ball Fundraiser & Music Festival will benefit the Silver City Volunteer Fire Department and will include live music, food, dancing, vendors, tie-dyed memorabilia and fun in the park. For more information and directions go to www.silvercityfiredepartment.org.

Virginia City

Fundraiser for candidate set

A fundraiser by supporters to retain Vanessa Dixon as Storey County Clerk-Treasurer will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. July 25 at the Cider Factory, 416 South B St., Virginia City.

The event will include appetizers, a no-host bar and silent auction. Bids for the auction close at 8 p.m. Call 230-9163.

Yerington

'Night in the Country' planned

The Boys & Girls Club of Mason Valley host two concerts 7 p.m., July 25-26 at the Lyon County Fairgrounds, 100 Highway 95A East, Yerington as part of the "Night in the Country" series. Tickets are $30 for one show is $30, $50 for both.
