Sparks youth appointed state leader of Order of Rainbow Girls

Selena La Rue of Sparks, was recently appointed Grand Worthy Advisor of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls in Nevada. IORG is a non-profit character-building, service-oriented organization for girls between the ages of 11 and 20 which teaches leadership, confidence and citizenship to young women. Grand Worthy Advisor is the highest leadership position in the organization.

"I am honored and excited for this upcoming year, Selena said. "During my term, I plan to increase Rainbow membership by incorporating fun activities for the girls."

Selena has been a Rainbow member for eight years. A graduate of Spanish Springs High School, Selena, 19, is currently attending the University of Nevada, Reno, where she is majoring in history and political science.

As Grand Worthy Advisor, Selena will also be responsible for planning service projects, fundraising and overseeing many other events in Nevada. Selena and the other Nevada Rainbow Girls have once again selected the Alzheimer's Association as their statewide service project.

During the 74th annual Grand Assembly, recently held at Circus Circus in Reno, 12 other young ladies from northern Nevada were appointed leadership roles as Grand Officers including: Michelle Lewis, Sparks No. 3; Alethea Johnson, Carson City No. 7; Shannon Crates, Carson City No. 7; Elizabeth Doughty, Reno No. 1; Jennifer Lewis, Sparks No. 3, Jessica Panelli, Reno No. 1; Shannon La Rue, Sparks No. 3; Sarah White, Carson City No. 7; Samantha Perez, Mt. Rose No. 13; Ilana Kingsbury, Reno No. 1; Brittany Haas, Fernley No. 26; Kristian Wilkinson, Reno No. 1; Jessica Staup, Ben Franklin No. 21; Melissa Teston, Ben Franklin No. 21.

Rainbow helps prepare today's young women to become tomorrow's leaders.
