Arts council hosting free talk today


The Nevada Arts Council will host a free talk by Jeanne Harrah Johnson, curator of "The Texture and Weave of Traditional Art" exhibit followed by a gallery reception 4:30-6:30 p.m., today, at the OXS gallery in the Nevada Arts Council office, 716 N. Carson St., Suite A.

Bug Out at the Carson Library today


Carson City Library hosts Storyteller Tom McCormack, 6:30 p.m., today, in the library auditorium. This story-musician will play different insect-instruments to help our unwelcome guests bug-out to the Infestation Fest.

Newborn Care Class at Carson Tahoe


Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center will host a Newborn Care Class, 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday in the Bristlecone Room, 1600 Medical Parkway. The infant care course will teach care basics as well as give the opportunity to ask more detailed questions about how to nurture your infant. For information and to signup, call 445-5131.

Eldorado pub crawl at blues festival


The Eldorado Hotel Casino in Reno will kick off the 2008 BBQ, Brews & Blues Festival weekend with the Microbrew Pub Crawl, 8 p.m., Friday. The crawl features 12 brews at four Eldorado bars, all on the casino floor.
