College brings comic to Carson, Fallon this week


The Associated Students of Western Nevada College are offering two light-hearted evenings of laughs with free comedy events in Carson City and Fallon.


The association is bringing a young Russian comedian, Daniel Kinno, to the WNC Carson City campus Tuesday and to Jive N Java coffee house in Fallon Wednesday. Both events begin at 7 p.m. and are free to students and the public.


According to Kinno, his performance is rated PG-13.


Tuesday's performance will be in the Joe Dini Student Center at the Carson City campus, 2201 W. College Parkway. Wednesday's performance will be at Jive N Java, 1805 W. Williams Ave., in Fallon. Contact ASWN in Carson City at 445-3323 or in Fallon at 423-7565.




Carson City Democrats meeting Thursday night


Carson City Democrats will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the AFSCME, Local 4041 office, 709 E. Robinson St.


Guest speaker is Carson City District Attorney Neil Rombardo. He will be speaking of his accomplishments at the district attorney's office, after his first year as our district attorney. Issues to be discussed include the upcoming Democratic State Convention, delegates to the convention and other business issues.

Little League seeking umpires for season


Carson City Little League is looking for umpires - male or female - to umpire the 2008 baseball season.


An informational meeting is at 7 p.m. Thursday at Round Table Pizza on Retail Road. Umpires must be at least 14 years of age.


All umpires will be paid and given a free meal for every night of work. The league will provide training, equipment and uniforms. Each umpire must have training before they step onto the field.

'Vagina Monologues' at Plaza Hotel


In association with the 2008 V-Day Campaign, Wild Horse Productions and The Plaza Hotel & Conference Center present a benefit production of Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues " at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Plaza Hotel & Conference Center, 801 S. Carson St.


"The Vagina Monologues," which was first performed off-Broadway by Ensler, dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage and excitement buried in women's experiences.

Carson Kindergarten Registration open today


Kindergarten Registration for the Carson City School District begins starting today.


• A birth certificate and immunization record, including Hepatitis vaccination must be submitted at the time of registration.


• A child who is 5 years of age on or before September 30 of 2008-2009 school year may be admitted to kindergarten.


• Proof of residency (power bill, gas bill, water bill, voter registration, etc.) in Carson City School District is required at the time of registration.
