College to hold show of quilts


A colorful and creative challenge quilt exhibit is warming up the winter cold at Western Nevada College. The Carson Valley Quilt Guild is showing its "Patchwork in the Park" exhibit at the College Gallery through March 21.


An artist's reception is set for 4:30-6 p.m. Monday in the gallery in the Bristlecone Building at WNC campus. Admission is free.




Museum holds historic fashions gallery walk


The Nevada State Museum presents a gallery walk of the new "Selections from the Collections" exhibit focusing on historic fashions at 1:30 p.m. Monday. The tour will be led by Jan Loverin, curator of Clothing and Textiles at the Marjorie Russell Clothing and Textile Center.


Space for the gallery walk is limited. To register, contact Deborah Stevenson at 687-4810, ext. 237.


Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, and free for children under 18.




Governor proclaims School Breakfast Week inNevada


Governor Jim Gibbons proclaimed this week School Breakfast Week in Nevada. It coincides with the National School Breakfast Week declared by President Bush. In Nevada, more than 57,000 students per day participate in the program.


"Fuel Your Imagination" is this year's theme, which educates students about the importance of eating breakfast and the benefits of eating breakfast at school.


Most local school districts will be celebrating the week with special activities. For information, call 687-9219.




Ballroom dancing lesson offered at the Senior Center


Join other seniors at the Carson City Senior Center every Wednesday, 11 a.m.-12 p.m. in the Nevada Room.


All ballroom dances are taught by Thane Cornell. Cost $5. All ages welcome. For information, call 885-0552.




College brings comic to Carson, Fallon this week


The Associated Students of Western Nevada College are offering two light-hearted evenings of laughs with free comedy events in Carson City and Fallon.


The association is bringing a young Russian comedian, Daniel Kinno, to the WNC Carson City campus Tuesday and to Jive N Java coffee house in Fallon on Wednesday. Both events begin at 7 p.m. and are free to students and the public.


According to Kinno, his performance is rated PG-13.


Tuesday's performance will be in the Joe Dini Student Center at the Carson City campus, 2201 W. College Parkway. Wednesday's performance will be at Jive N Java, 1805 W. Williams Ave., in Fallon.
