A Carson City man was involved in a fatal accident in Reno in which a pedestrian was killed Saturday.

According to Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen, Gary M. Castagne, 55, of Carson City, had just entered the southbound freeway from Moana Lane about 11:30 p.m. and was moving into center travel lane, when his 2006 Ford F-250 struck the 30-year-old pedestrian. Allen said the pedestrian was standing in the middle of the three southbound lanes.

The pedestrian, whose name was not released, was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries four hours later, said Allen.

This section of freeway was closed for approximately two hours, and southbound traffic was diverted onto the Moana Lane off ramp.

Witnesses to the accident, or anyone with additional information, are encouraged to call Trooper Eric Gallagher at (775) 689-4661 regarding case # NHP-0811081276.
