A 19.2 pound (4 foot long) Carp caught at Pyramid Lake

BLUE LAKES AREA, CALIF: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930): Not much going on due to the weather. The road is still open and you can still fish there.

BLUE LAKES, NEV: Will close on Nov. 15.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF: Jeffry Wenger of the Bridgeport Reservoir RV Park and Marina (888-377-1677) or (760-932-7001): Will close on Nov. 15. The last couple weeks have been pretty decent. They are catching fish from shore by the dam, using nightcrawlers or casting lures like Rapalas or Thomas Buoyants. You can still launch boats (up to about 18 feet) at "The Bathtub."

CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Doug Busey of Douglas County reported that shore fishing has been "decent." The lodge is now closed down until Christmas.

CARSON RIVERS, CALIF: Will close on Nov. 15.

East Carson River: Todd Sodaro and Chad Machado of the Carson River Resort (877-694-2229): Will close on Nov. 15. A guy and his sister on an RV stopped counting when they reached 30 rainbows caught and released. Their two biggest were 7 pounds and 5 pounds. The water is nice and clear, picture perfect.

West Carson River: Dave Kirby: Will close on Nov. 15. Fishing has picked up a little. We saw some limits on Saturday (by Sorensen's) and on Sunday (by Crystal Springs Campground).

CONVICT LAKE, CALIF: The Convict Lake Resort (800-992-2260): Will close on Nov. 15.

CROWLEY LAKE AREA, CALIF: Steve Osterman of Performance Anglers of Mammoth Lakes (760) 924-2181: Will close on Nov. 15.

FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF: Wiggin's Trading Post at Chilcoot, Calif. (530-993-4683): Fishing has been a little spotty this past week. Some fishermen have reported good luck at the ramp at Frenchman Campground and Landing. Others have had luck at Turkey Point and at Lunker Point. Float nightcrawlers off the bottom for best results. Rainbow Power Bait seems to be a favorite of some fishermen.

GREEN CREEK, CALIF. (West of Bridgeport): Will close on Nov. 15.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR, CALIF: Doug Busey reported: The lake is low, but it is 90% weed free. The lake has turned over and the fishing is slow to fair. I went for 2 hours Saturday morning and caught 1 rainbow (15 inches) and missed 3 others. The water is very murky, but that is due to the algae break-up in the water.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Valerie at Crosby's Lodge at (775) 476-0400: The biggest fish of the week was a 12-pounder caught at "The Nets" by fly fisherman Scott Anderson of Reno. We also had a 9-pounder, two 8-pounders, two 7-pounders and one 5-pounder. Most were caught trolling at Hell's Kitchen, Wino Beach, Anderson Bay and Warrior Point.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: George and Carla Molino of the Pyramid Lake Store at (775) 476-0555: Fishing has been up and down. On days when there is no wind, the fishing has been pretty good. The better shore fishing has been at places like Blockhouse and Cattleguard, where they can get out to deeper water. The biggest news is the fly fisherman who was casting a "White Beetle" fly and caught a 19.2 pound, 4-foot long, Carp. He was fishing at the "Sand Hole" near the south end of the lake.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Chris and Jeri Grellman of Hog Charters in Sparks at 358-5199 (home) or Chris at 221-4014 (cell): Saturday's charter canceled due to the weather. On Sunday, it was also pretty windy, we fished 1.5 hours and got blow off. The fish have moved into the 40-60 foot depths.

ROOSEVELT-LANE LAKES, CALIF: Will close on Nov. 15.

SACRAMENTO RIVER, CALIF: Dave Jacobs (Professional Guide Service) (800-355-3113):

Rainbow Trout: Fishing for wild rainbow trout on the lower Sacramento or Sac River from Redding downstream below Anderson has been good this week with a great trout bite and a few Fall Steelhead mixed once in awhile on conventional spin gear. The trout bite has been good this week with a tougher Steelhead bite on the Sacramento river in the Anderson Balls Ferry area. Trout guides are reporting better fishing for wild rainbow trout 1-3 pounds with the occasional big trout of 4 plus pounds from Redding downstream near Red Bluff. Most rainbow trout have been over 16 inches with some in the twenty plus inch class. Fall salmon are spawning making for multiple rainbow trout hook-ups a day are a real possibility this time of year while trout fishing. 20-30 wild bows hooked per day can be expected in October. More Fall salmon are moving upstream and trout fishing will only improve through October and November. Trout fishing has been best side drifting small Glo Bugs in various egg color combos with a Quickie Puffball being best bet. Trout fishing has also been good by back trolling small Hot Shots 50's or small K-4/K-5 Kwikfish in various color combos.

Salmon: The Salmon fishing season finally opened on November 1st, with some much needed rain in Northern California and some decent reports of bright, hard fighting Late Fall King Salmon. The season is limited from the Red Bluff diversion dam downriver to Knights Landing and is open from November 1st to December 31st. The opening weekend produced some very nice Salmon from Red Bluff through Colusa. Don Benson landed a nice 20 pound hatchery hen while out with professional guide Dave Jacobs on Saturday's opener. Only a handful of Salmon were hooked this weekend with better scores on Saturday than Sunday. Backbouncing Sardine-wrapped Kwikfish and Flatfish lures produced most Salmon. Salmon fishing was good this past week with better scores of Salmon on the weekdays rather than the weekends. Red Bluff downriver to Colusa produced most hook-ups. Some guides reported Salmon hooked on backbounced roe over the weekend. The California state record Salmon of 88 pounds was caught this time of year and it is well known that Salmon fishing this time of year could produce a true Sacramento river trophy.

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore: Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552): We went out yesterday (Monday) and the day before. Fishing has been all the way from slow to good. I've been fishing at Dollar Point and Cal-Neva Point. Trolling 100--200 feet deep with large Dodger blades and minnows. Our biggest was an 8-pound Mackinaw trout.

UPPER TWIN LAKE, CALIF: Annett's Mono Village (760-932-7071): Will close on Nov. 15.

VIRGINIA LAKES, CALIF: Carolyn Webb of the Virginia Lakes Resort: Will close on Nov. 15.

East Walker River: No report.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR, NEV: Dennis Dunn at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472: Same as last week: Trout fishing is the best in the 12 years of my tenure at Wildhorse. The trout are fatter (heavier per inch) than I have ever seen. Perch are scattered but fat and sassy. The Smallies are few and far between.
