Carson boys tennis edges out Lancers

The Carson Senators boys tennis team received contributions from virtually its entire lineup to pull out a close 10-8 win in a nonleague match against McQueen on Thursday at Carson High School.

"It was a very close match," Carson coach Kevin Fallon said. "It was right down to the last matches. It was a lot of fun. There was some very close, hard fought, competitive matches. Everyone made a contribution. I was really proud of the guys."

Spencer Brinson swept all three of his matches for Carson, winning 6-4, 6-1, 6-0. His 6-4 win over McQueen's Joey Saarem was a big one as he beat one of Northern Nevada's to players. Brinson and Saarem are also doubles tournaments and recently won a club tournament as doubles partners.

The match was tied 3-3 after the first round as Carson swept the singles matches. Adam Whitt won 6-3 and Gordon Lee won 6-4 to go along with Brinson's win.

Carson was swept in doubles, losing two close matches. Jon Kane and Ricky Nguyen lost 6-7 (3-7) and J.J. Aragon and Dom Mariani lost 4-6. McQueen won one more game than Carson in the six sets that were played in the first round.

In the second round, Whitt won 6-0 in singles and Tyler Simms and Jordan Rogers won 6-3 in doubles. The difference of the match turned out to be Thomas Hollenbeck-Pringle and Nguyen winning 7-5. That helped give Carson a 7-5 lead after the second round.

"That was a big win for us," Fallon said. "Thomas played some of the best tennis I've seen him play all year."

In the third round, Simms and Rogers won 6-1 and Blake Sly won in singles 6-2 to put Carson over the top. Peter Brinson and Matt McDaniel also played well in a 6-7 (5-7) loss in doubles.

MCQUEEN 13, CHS GIRLS 5

Hannah Dudley and Elise Hansen won 6-3, 6-2, Hannah Shaw and Alyssa Corda won 6-3, Ali Collier and Bridjett Huish won 6-4 in doubles and Tiffany Moore won 6-3 in singles for Carson.

GALENA BOYS 13, INCLINE 5

Galena improved to 3-0 as Shane Leeder and Graham Harris swept their three matches. Leeder won 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 and Harris won 6-4, 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles, Joseph Prescott and Kyle Karrasch won both of their matches 6-0, 6-3 and Nicholas Wesley and Evan Bender won 6-3.

GALENA GIRLS 16, INCLINE 2

Hailey Llop swept her three matches in singles 6-4, 6-2, 6-4, Mica Olson won both of her matches 6-0, 6-0 and Hannah Llop won all three of her matches 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in singles for Galena. In doubles, Lindy Deller and Adie Potter won 6-0, Emily McClintock and Leann Roggensack won 6-0, Alex Darling and Ellen Ferguson won 6-0, 6-0, Courtney Morse and Catheryn Hansen won 6-2 and Kylee Joseph and Olivia Mason won 6-2, 6-1 for Galena.
