The Carson Chamber Singers will celebrate "Seasons of Love" for its spring concert at 4 p.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church, located at 412 West Musser St., Carson City.

The concert features poems set to music.

"The songs are about all the different kinds of love in our lives" from passionate love, to giggling children to the mature love of older couples, said Director Judy Monson. "I'm a romantic."

They range from the subtlety of "The Pasture" by Robert Frost, set to music by Randall Stroope, to the familiar words from Song of Solomon, "Rise Up, My Love, My Fair One," set by James McCray, and the deep passion of Kahlil Gibran's "Winter."

Other pieces feature the poems of Robert Burns, Christopher Marlowe, William Blake, William Shakespeare and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, all set by modern 20th and 21st century composers.

"You will find ample opportunity to reflect, chuckle, revel, soar and be comforted," Monson said. "Come, join us, and experience the beauty and magic of great poetry wedded to heartwarming music."

Several selections by composure David Dickau will be presented, including "The Laughing Song," "O Mistress Mine," "If Music be the Food of Love," and "I Love My Love."

"His style is rich, varied, buoyant and most pleasing to the ear," Monson said.

Dr. Dickau also is composing a choral piece for the Carson Chamber Singers in celebration of its 25th season next year.

The Carson Chamber Singers, a group of about 40 singers, formed in 1985 as an affiliate of the Carson City Symphony. Its varied repertoire includes classical, popular, seasonal and contemporary works.
