Six Western Nevada College errors led to 4 unearned runs as the Wildcats dropped a 9-3 decision against Riverside Community College Wednesday in Riverside, Calif.
Things started well for Western Nevada when Lance Ray homered to rightfield in the top of the first, but after that things fell apart for the Wildcats (2-3).
Riverside (3-3) scored three runs in the first off WNC starter Jordan Lewis and added three in the third and two more in the fourth and a single run in the sixth.
Lewis, making his first start for WNC, went two and a third innings allowing six runs, four earned, on four hits.
Lewis was relieved by fellow freshman David Carroll who went three and two-thirds innings allowing three runs, one earned, on three hits.
Ray shined offensively with three of WNC's six hits. Dan Zylstar, Travis Feiner and Cory Raymond also collected hits.
Tigers starter Adrian Mendoza picked up his first win the season, by working six innings. He allowed six hits and three runs, two earned. He struck out eight and walked one.
The Wildcats made 10 errors in the season-opening four-game series against South Mountain Community College. Last year, in 58 games, the Wildcats made 87 errors.
The same two teams square off today at 2 p.m. in the second game of a three-game series.
