Western Nevada softball wins first games in school history

ST. GEORGE, Utah " Western Nevada College's first-year softball squad broke its four-game losing streak in impressive fashion.

Alyson Herman tossed a five-inning perfect game in an 8-0 win over Colorado Northwestern Community College in the first game of Friday's doubleheader, and then threw 6.1 innings of four-hit relief to help WNC to a 13-2 win and a sweep.

WNC is 2-4 entering today's doubleheader against Colorado Northwestern, which starts at noon.

Herman struck out 16 in 11.1 innings of work and walked just one batter.

"She was in a zone that first game," WNC coach Scott Rasner said. "Amber (Huish) started the second game and things didn't go so well, so we brought in Alyson and she took off again. She did a great job,

"Our hitting ws awesome today. We did very, very well. We hit a few singles and doubles that went off the wall."

Herman helped herself at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run and RBI. Husih also went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Leadoff hitter Alex Arciniega went 1-for-3 with two RBI and three stolen bases, while Devin Steelman and Ashley Williams added a hit apiece.

In the second game, Western Nevada got homers from Arciniega, Alisha Perry, Herman and Williams.

Williams went 4-for-4, while Stephanie Meibert and Arciniega each went 3-for-4 witrh two RBI and three RBI, respectively. Herman and Perry homered and singled. Herman drove in two runs and Perry drove in one run.
