Carson City

Southbound Roop Street to be closed

The southbound lane of Roop Street between Highway 50 and Long Street will be closed 7 a.m.-7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 28 to relocate utilities for the Stewart Street extension. The $5.6 million extension will eventually run about two miles from Carson Street until it connects with Roop Street just past Dan Street. It is expected to be finished this fall.

Last day of hospital gift shop sale

Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare Auxiliary Gift Shop holds a pre-Spring Cleanup and Valentine sale through Monday, Feb. 16. Gift shop hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday-Friday; 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Take 30 percent off everything in the shop, excluding See's Candies and cards. All proceeds benefit the Regional Medical Center. The gift shop is located inside the main entrance of the hospital at 1600 Medical Parkway. For information, call 445-5142.

Pageant to hold weekly meeting

The Miss Carson City and Miss Douglas County Scholarship Programs hold weekly meetings for this year's pageant. Meetings are 7 p.m., Tuesday, at the Indian Hills General Improvement District board room, 3394 James Lee Park Road No. A. Tuesday, Feb. 17 is the deadline for contestant entries. Program about flight available for youth

The EAA Sierra Chapter 403 Young Eagles Program meets every third Saturday of the month. The next event is Saturday, Feb. 21 at the Carson City Airport. The purpose of the Young Eagles Program is to introduce young people ages 8-17 to the world of aviation by offering an introductory flight in a small aircraft. The Young Eagles Program promotes general aviation through education and provides information on aviation careers, flight training and other programs as Civil Air Patrol, Girl Scout Badge program and scholarship sources. Lincoln Bicentennial publication available

The official Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial publication is on sale at the Nevada State Museum store, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, 600 N. Carson St. The booklet contains articles on Lincoln's life and presidency. The introduction to the publication is written by President Obama. The booklet also can be ordered by telephone at 687-4810, ext. 234 or 244. The booklet sells for $10 at the store or $15 by mail order. Proceeds benefit the State Museum and the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission. Copies will be limited to five per person.

Dog Park Committee to meet Wednesday

The Dayton Valley Dog Park Committee will meet 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18 in the community room of the Greater Nevada Credit Union, 555 Highway 50 East in Dayton.
