Do you like to laugh? Then make reservations (883-1976) for Proscenium Players production of "Moonlight and Magnolias" at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King St. in Carson City. It starts at 7:30 p.m. and runs two more weekends on Fridays and Saturdays, Feb. 20, 21, 27 and 28. The pace is fast, is "loosely" based on a true story, and seniors, kids, warped adults, and the general public will have a great time. (See more below.)

And if you missed WNMTC's "A Grand Night for Singing," M says you missed a really good show (the Big C was sick, sick, sick). Delightful music, singing, dancing, costumes, etc. (although little Nicholas Papp stole the show). Stephanie's pink ensemble was "to die for." Good work, gals and guys!

As we said in the above paragraph, the Big C (aka Carolyn) was sick as a dog last week with some gombooz that had her bedridden. Whatever it was, we hope you don't get it. Barfola ... She did have one bright moment on Valentine's Day when the phone rang at 11 at night (sleep time). It was a wrong number. Some guy from Arizona was calling "Sheryl" in the "Reno area" and got "Carol" by mistake. It took him 15 minutes to apologize, wish her "Happy Valentine's Day," and tell her she sounded like a "hip chick." His happy voice, plus a good dose of tequila (she thinks), made it a great Valentine's "gift." Just don't call back ...

Rhonda Knox found this doozy on the Internet: "Three contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence at the White House. The Florida contractor whips out a tape measure, then works some figures with a pencil, and says, 'I figure the job will cost $900 ... $400 for materials, $400 for my crew, and $100 profit for me.' The Tennessee contractor also measures the fence, and comes up with '$700 ... $300 for materials, $300 for my crew, and $100 for me.' The New York contractor looks the job over, goes to the White House official and whispers, '$2,700.' The official gasps, and says, 'You didn't even measure ... how did you come up with that figure?' Mr. New York leans back over to the official ...' $1000 for me, $1000 for you, and $700 for the guy from Tennessee to do the job.' 'Done,' says the WH official.' And that, my friends, is how government contracting works."

Mike Thomas, president of the Western Nevada Astronomical Society, tells us that if you get up about 4 a.m. (yikes) on Feb. 24, look up in the Southwest from the horizon about 30 degrees, find the constellation Leo (those are the four stars that form a "square"), then see Saturn (should be the bright "star" in sight), AND, just below Saturn you'll see Comet Lulin. It's an emerald green, and you can see it with the naked eye, but binoculars would help. They are also selling raffle tickets on an autographed Buzz Aldrin commemorative coin (raffle's in December) for $20 each (or 6 for $100), including a 4-inch Celestron GTO telescope. Call 445-3240 for tickets and information, and support your local observatory. And don't forget the free star parties every Saturday at 7 p.m.

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 25 ... so go out and make an "ash" of yourself BEFORE then. A big Happy Birthday to Kathy Thompson this week ... she's a LOT younger than George Washington (they share the same day) ... and more alive! And don't forget the fine concert the Carson City Symphony is giving this Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Community Center. It's always a treat. Charleen and Bruce Belshaw want to recommend their favorite restaurant, Genghix, 1480 N. Carson St. to everyone. They serve Thai, Chinese and also Pho (Vietnamese). They say the food is soooo good (we can attest to that), the people nice, and it's a place you should all try. We tried the new Pho Country restaurant the other day, too, and it was very good. Lots of new tastes in town, so be sure you try them out.

Did you know that "stimulative" was a word? We heard it twice on "Meet the Press" last Sunday ... "The stimulus package will be 'stimulative' to the country." Good grief, get a dictionary ... shades of GWB.
