130 YEARS AGO

Scoville's watch: While the Episcopal festival was in full blast, Mr. C. Scoville, a gentlemen in the employ of D. L. Bliss, carelessly left his vest containing a valuable gold watch and chain in the dressing room ... upon his return his watch and chain were missing. At last a man named James Fleming alias Emigrant Jim had offered to sell a watch to a man employed in Muller's barber shop. An immediate search ensued for the gentlemen, but the bird had flown. Finally, caught in Winnemucca, and the watch recovered.

100 YEARS AGO

There was standing room only as the Gans-Nelson fight pictures - best of their kind ever seen by a Carson audience. The pictures are clear and show every move made by the fighters during the twenty-one rounds - finally won by Nelson ...

A physician says that a woman's foot will be shaped like a horse's hoof in 100,000 years because of feminine footwear. Horseshoes would cost less anyhow.

Deputies Dave Bobbitt and Pam Church's work day starts with a two-and-a-half-mile bike ride and then they head to Mills Park. They are part of Carson City Sheriff's Department bicycle patrol.
