Fallon to host second fight night in August

For the second straight year, the City of Fallon will host a professional boxing card during the summer at the Churchill County Fairgrounds. And once again, the City will team up with Let's Get It On Promotions to produce a fight card featuring up and coming boxers with national, regional and local followings as well as a female bout.

The Fallon Fights will take place Aug. 29 inside the rodeo arena beginning at 7 p.m.

General admission tickets will be $15 and $10 for students. Ringside seats and company tables will also be offered.

Prestella Memorial fundraiser a success

The fourth annual Kenny Prestella Memorial Golf Tournament on May 31 brought out 26 golfers to help raise money for the Epilepsy Foundation. It was held at Empire Ranch Golf Course and sponsored by Heritage Bank of Nevada. More than $1,400 was raised for the foundation in Prestella's name.

First Tee still taking signups

The First Tee is a nonprofit youth development organization that teaches important life skills through golf instruction to help youth ages 7-17 grow as individuals and prepare for the future.

June class sessions begin June 9-10 at Eagle Valley Golf Course. Class sessions meet twice a week for four weeks. Cost is $80 and financial assistance is available. Classes will be led by Eagle Valley Head Golf Professional Dave Gephardt, PGA.

Douglas to host rec volleyball tourney

The Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department will host a 4-on-4 grass volleyball tournament on June 14 during Carson Valley Days at Lampe Park.

Signups will be accepted from teams or individuals and the cost is $15 per player.

There will be a three-game guarantee in pool play, plus an elimination bracket. The number of games and times will be determined by the number of teams signed up. Signups must be in by June 10. Players must be at least 16 years old to play. Call 782-9828 for more information.

SYFL signups start today in Carson

The Sierra Youth Football League is coming to Carson and Douglas. The fastest growing youth football league in Northern Nevada will hold signups for 9-10, 10-11, 11-12, and the 12-14 year old divisions. Kids will play with their age group, not by weight. Signups are today at Pizza Factory in Carson City and Pizza Barn in Gardnerville. For more info call 883-0184.

Carson Pop Warner signups Thursday

Carson City Pop Warner football and cheerleading will continue signups at 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Round Table Pizza at Retail Drive.

Football is $100, which includes practice and game gear (except for cleats). Cheerleading is $60, plus help in a fundraiser for actual cost of uniform.

Native American club softball fundraiser

The Native American Club will take on the Carson School District staff in a softball challenge fundraiser June 12 at Western Nevada College. The event begins at 1 p.m. with $3 admission fee (kids 12 and under are free). The event will benefit the club.

Eagle Valley to hold junior golf program

Golf pro Denise Massaferri will host a summer junior golf program at Eagle Valley Golf Course beginning June 15.

There are two sessions offered " June 15, 17, 22, 24, 29 and July 13, 15, 20, 22, 27 " and run from 10-11:30 a.m. and noon-1:30 p.m. Classes are for children ages 6-12 for a cost of $75.

Sertoma Club to host charity golf tourney

The Carson Sertoma Club's annual charity golf tournament to raise funds for children with speech, cancer and diabetes problems will be held Sunday, June 28 at the Eagle Valley East golf course.

There is a $100 entry fee. Hole sponsorships are $100. For registration, sponsorships, or donations, call Frank Taylor at 885-7579.

Carson volleyball league taking signups

The Carson City recreation adult volleyball summer league is taking signups. Coed teams will play Mondays and/or Wednesdays and women only teams will play Tuesdays.

Registration will run through June 12 at the Carson City Community Center from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Cost is $55 per player for the 16-game season and league play begins June 15. For more information call Jeremiah Teeter at 887-2290 ext. 30429.
