Good eats coming up in the form of "Taste of Downtown" on Saturday. Tickets are $35 and can be obtained at the Advocates office, Classy Seconds, Kristopher's Cafe, and the Visitor's Bureau. It runs from 5:30-9 p.m. and is always a great event.

The farmers markets also are opening up. The one at the Pony Express Pavilion in Mills Park has already begun, and will be open each Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. The one at Third Street will open in the morning on Saturdays beginning June 27. All kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables are available, and you meet all kinds of neat people there. A "not so subtle" HINT to the Pavilion Market ... get some benches so people can rest and talk.

Catch the BAC Stage Kids presentation of "CSI Neverland" at 2 p.m. today at the Brewery. Unfortunately, it's their last performance of this show, but it's not too late to support them. The Pops Party Concert also is today at 3 p.m. at the Governor's Mansion. It is free, and all kinds of wonderful music will be played. Call 883-4154 for details. The Dakota Organization of Minden is putting on the play "Rabbit Hole" at the CVIC Hall to benefit Alzheimer's research. It runs June 19-28. Call 265-2942 for additional information.

The other day, M was at the bank drive-in next to a lady with a couple of kids and a dog in her car. First of all, she dropped her deposit and had to get out of the car to retrieve it, then the teller sent her receipt and a dog bone for the dog. She, and the kids, were delighted (as well as the dog), and they drove away into the parking lot. The car stopped, and again the lady jumped out. This time she had the carrier that the receipt was in and had forgotten to put it back. Fortunately, she was laughing, and brought smiles to M, the teller, and the guy waiting at the ATM. We wonder how many times that happens at the banks in town? Probably lots.

We see the politicians are coming out of the woodwork to run for governor in two years. Let's hope one of them is a LEADER, not an individual with an intractable mindset. No one likes taxes, but remember, your taxes pay for education, health care, police, firemen, roads, water purification, etc., all the things you take for granted. We're looking for politicians who can work together FOR Nevadans, not just making themselves and one particular party or another look good. If you decide to become a public servant, do it for ALL of us, not just a select few.

We received a letter saying that requests to local and state officials went unanswered this session. The writers were bothered by taxes, illegal immigration and a number of other causes. No one answered them. So to any one running for political office, remember, you represent all of the people, not just your favored few. They all deserve answers.
