Obituary: Mona Anna Baker Edgar

Mona Edgar, age 80, passed away March 29, 2009. Mona was born March 5, 1929 in London, England. She spent the early years of her life growing up in Tokyo, Japan and Shanghai, China. Mona then came to the United States with her parents at approximately 12 years of age, settling in San Francisco, Calif. She attended and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1947. After graduation, she moved to Reno and shortly thereafter, moved to Carson City where she resided for the past 46 years.

She worked as a telephone operator for Nevada Bell for several years. She married Clayton Edgar in 1949 and had four children. Clay and Mona started a construction and tile business which they operated for over 24 years. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Mona and Clay were very active in youth sports especially baseball in the Carson area. She was a loving mother who enjoyed caring for her family and participating in her children's many activities. One of her greatest joys in life was her Yorkie, "Angel".

Mona was preceded in death by her father, Charles Baker, her mother, Helene Baker, her loving husband, Clay, and son, Clayton Junior.

She is survived by her sons, Steve and Bryce Edgar and her daughter, Leslie (Bill) Maddox who all reside in Carson City. She also has two granddaughters, Blair (Dusty) McDowell and Kerinne Edgar.

A viewing will be 6-8 p.m., Thursday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley She will be laid to rest 1 p.m., Friday at Mountain View Cemetery in Reno. In lieu of flowers, the family requests anyone wanting to make a donation, do so to their favorite charity in Mona's name.
