The public is invited to help clean up the Carson River area at the end of Fifth Street from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Helping to clean the area along with working on habitat preservation/cottonwood tree protection, willow planting and riverbank stabilization, will be 33 members of the Carson High School ROTC to assist with beaver abatement by painting trees and installing chicken wire. Along with the students, more than 35 members of the business community will assist with assigned tasks.
The staging area will be Korean War Memorial Park/ Riverview Park Wetlands located at the end of 5th Street at Marsh Road. A free lunch will be served courtesy of Carson City Chamber Chairman of the Board Jim Smolenski and the Elks Lodge, 515 N. Carson St.
Riverfest ends the joint Chamber/Parks and Recreation cleanup program that began in March. More than 100 business persons have participated in keeping our community clean with emphasis on our park areas.
The clean-up program will resume in March 2010.
The cleanup is sponsored by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce, the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department, Carson Valley Conservation District, Carson Water Subconservancy District, Western Nevada Resource Conversation and Development, Kelly Moore Paint and Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177.
