He was a carpenter
Steve Cogorno was born in Los Angeles January 1, 1920, to Italian immigrants, John Cogorno and Carlotta Berisso. His brother, Gaitano, and his sister, Nina Frugoni, both of Lavagna, Genoa, Italy, and his parents predeceased him. At the age of 2, Steve moved to Italy where he lived until 1937. In Italy, he was a motorcycle racer, a boxer and a cabinet maker.
He journeyed to the United States to escape Mussolini's conscription into the Italian army. In America he joined the United States Army and proudly served in World War II as an interpreter and a construction supervisor. Steve was a building contractor in Southern California in the late 1940s and relocated to Carson City in 1956. In Northern Nevada, Steve developed a home construction business, building quality custom homes throughout Carson City and Reno. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener.
Steve is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gloria (Ferrarino), and two daughters and their families: daughter Stephanie (Dan Miles); granddaughters, Amy (Scott Robinson) and great-grandchildren, Brooke and Shane; Katie (Tom Armstrong), all of Carson City; daughter Pamela Robinson; granddaughter Kimberly (Gregg Moore) and great-grandchildren, Jacob, Justine and Jordan, all of Sparks, Nev.; Steven Robinson (Linda), and great-grandchildren, Ashley, Hunter and Kailey, all of Reno.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at Walton's Chapel of the Valley, 1281 No. Roop St., Carson City. In lieu of flowers Steve requests that every family who knew him and his joy of life and family, celebrate his life with good food and quality time with each other.
