The Chinese seem to be taking a great interest in the coming visit of General Grant. A prominent merchant of that race, stated its the intention of his countrymen to decorate their homes on the occasion of the General's visit.

100 YEARS AGO

(Continued from Thursday) Beckstead and the troops continued on to Tucson, then a Mexican military outpost. On hearing of the troops advance, the Mexican military drove everything that could walk away from the outpost. The troops advanced to the Gila River at Pima Village. It was the only place Beckstead had found where money was of no value, but if you had a brass button, you could get flour. (Continued Saturday)

70 YEARS AGO

With about 20 members present of the Monday Study club, Miss Jobe of Stewart gave a talk about her experiences as a social worker among the fruit pickers in California. A "Grapes of Wrath" discussion followed Miss Jobe's talk. Candy was served by the hostess.

50 YEARS AGO

The second annual Miss Carson City contest is on tap tonight at the Nugget. Outgoing Toastmaster president W. E. (Bill) Dunfield will be master of ceremonies. Vying for the title are Michell Lee, Heidi Schmidt, Barbara Roventini, Dee Dee Thomas, Sharon Arns, Mary Ellen Gibson, and Sharon Johnson.

20 YEARS AGO

Nevada's first comprehensive history video called "Nevada, A History of the Silver State" will premiere today at the Legislative building. The film was produced to honor Nevada's 125 years of statehood.

10 YEARS AGO

Women going to the Carson Mall this week thought they were going for a free flu shot, but walked into a wellness fair hosted by Carson-Tahoe Hospital as part of breast cancer awareness month.
