Historical Society hosts ice cream social

Come join the fun on a cool summer evening when the Carson City Historical Society hosts its annual Ice Cream Social from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Foreman-Roberts House Park, 1207 N. Carson St.

Special ice cream and cookies will be available for $4 per person - and children attending will be able to build their own birdhouse courtesy of Jim DeMagistris of Woodworking Specialties.

The evening will be filled with music as David Bugli's "Millennium Bugs" performs during the event.

The Carson City Historical Society is a nonprofit organization. Proceeds from the event benefit the historical society's "Carriage House Project."

Friends of Library offer bargain book sale

The Friends of the Carson City Library will offer its Bargain Book Sale from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Aug. 13 and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 14 in the Carson Mall.

Thousands of books will be offered. All hardcover books will be $1. Paperbacks, children's books, videos and retired library books will be two for $1. Records and Reader's Digest books will be four for $1.

All proceeds benefit the Carson City Library.

Blue Grass Festival comes to Bowers Mansion

The Northern Nevada Bluegrass Association is hosting its 25th Annual Bowers Mansion Bluegrass Festival Aug. 13, 14 and 15. The festival will take place at Bowers Mansion Regional Park in Washoe Valley.

Cost is $15 for adults and $3 for children 2-12.

The popular Nevada bluegrass festival offers one of the best values in art and entertainment with bands performing some of the finest American music around including hard-driving bluegrass, sweet gospel harmonies and old-time music.

The festival also features music workshops, food and craft vendors. Camping and free festivities are also available at Davis Creek Campgrounds.
