There'll be a Merry Christmas from the Carson City Street Department ... Roop street will be opening in 2-3 weeks, just depends on the weather and a few warmer days. Hallelujah. And while you're in the holiday spirit, don't forget to drop off some canned goods, a frozen turkey, pet food, etc. at FISH. Warm coats and clothing are appreciated, too. Also, Toys for Tots is looking for gifts for tots and teenagers. And Food for Thought is always seeking food for kids who need food for the weekends. Thanks to all who can help.

Sixty-nine years ago, Pearl Harbor was bombed by the Japanese, and we entered WWII. One of Maizie's father's comrades-in-arms in Europe, Mel Rappap-ort, just called her to reminisce about those terrible times, but also with stories of people trying to redeem mankind. Thanks, Mel.

Local news: Nick Brown has retired from the Department of Corrections ... enjoy your time off, Nick. Theresa Langford, owner of the Roadrunner in Dayton, has moved to Oregon and sold the business to Dave and Anita Curtis of Virginia City. They promise the same good food we've gotten used to. That's a good thing.

M came home last Friday to a plugged up sewer pipe. Her regular plumber, Greg Petersen (882-5454) was out of town, but he called her back and suggested Ed Hart Plumbing (882-1888) to come and fix it. He was there in
45 minutes and got everything up and going.
Another plumber was going to charge double for the day after Thanksgiving. No thanks. But Ed and Greg were great.

Carson Valley Theater Company will host an acting workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 8-9 for $150 each. Their last classes were a great success, taught by Peter Frisch. If interested, call Lucille Rao at 843-3493 ASAP. Carolyn found some really cute shops for Christmas gifts in the Carson Mall: Bellissimo Boutique (they used to be out on Topsy Lane), Sierra Gifts & Collectibles (we're going on the "Buy Local" campaign), and Paradise Cove, now open for breakfast at 7 a.m., starting at $2.95, with some good veggie meals, too. Try them all out. And don't forget Sugar Pine Cove is in the NE complex off College Parkway and Goni Road behind Irwin National Bank. They have great stuff, too.
