How Beer failed: The failure of Tom Beer at Empire was caused by unlimited credit given to customers. No man that ever wanted meat left his store without it. Some families in the town ended owning him several hundred dollars. They will wait a long time before they find a man whose heart is as tender as his porter-house steaks.

100 YEARS AGO

Fred Kitzmeyer, an avid hunter, autoist and fisherman, is figuring on getting an airplane to hunt ducks on Washoe lake. Hubert Latham, a noted French aviator, has successfully killed a duck from his flying machine in California and now Kitzmeyer has an idea of doing the same thing (continued Wednesday).

70 YEARS AGO

A new home is being built in the Kings Canyon subdivision by the Sweetland Posey Company for Mr. and Mrs. Thorton Posey.

50 YEARS AGO

Leonard Dale Sage, a 34-year old former Reno Cab driver was sentenced today to three months in a federal prison for falsely reporting a bomb aboard Vice President Richard Nixon's campaign plane in Reno last August.

20 YEARS AGO

A Marvin Drive home owned by Dan and Lois Kelly was the winner in the Christmas decorating contest. Second place went to Mitch and Cathy Jepson at 3325 Ponderosa Drive.

10 YEARS AGO

Lyon County Commissioners back an effort to widen the highway between Fernley and Fallon.
