Revelers ringing in the new year should add earmuffs to their party hats: Carson City weather tonight and into the weekend is going to be "pretty darn cold," according to National Weather Service Meteorologist Alex Hoon.

Hoon said that although the cold won't be record breaking it will be below normal for Carson City.

"(This morning) it's going to be really cold with low 30s (today) and New Year's Eve night, low teens into single digits," he said.

Hoon said the cold will continue through the weekend with low- to mid-30s and potential for some light snow flurries for the next couple of days.

"Right now it doesn't seem like it's going to be that much as far as accumulation goes," he said.

Sunday has a 20 percent chance of snow, mostly cloudy, with a high near 32 and a low around 19.

Forecasters are predicting the weather through Thursday will be partly sunny, with highs in the mid- to high-30s and lows around 20 degrees.
