Obituary: Kyle Charles McAfee

October 3, 1984 - February 9, 2010

Kyle Charles McAfee passed away on February 9, 2010, at the young age of 25. This compassionate and caring individual began his life in Portland, Ore., in 1984. Upon moving to Carson City in 1993, Kyle attended Fritch Elementary School where he excelled in academics. Always looking out for others, Kyle volunteered at the Carson Tahoe Hospital throughout middle school.

Continuing with his education, Kyle graduated from Carson High School in 2003. He excelled in both academics and swimming, earning varsity letters in both. His passion for school and politics rewarded him with National Honors Society recognition as well as attending Boys' State in 2002.

Upon graduation, Kyle attended the Virginia Military Institute where he was a member of their prestigious marching band, contributing his talents through the trombone. Returning to Carson, Kyle graduated from the Western Nevada State Peace Officer Academy in 2006. An avid statesman with a keen sense for politics, Kyle worked in the 75th Session of the Nevada State Legislative Assembly.

In addition to his outstanding academic, athletic and professional work, Kyle enjoyed numerous activities. His inquisitive and imaginative mind contributed to his broad grasp of literature and music, including a talent for creating poetry. As an avid outdoorsman, Kyle enjoyed SCUBA diving, rock climbing, firearms, weight training and running. Amongst these endeavors, he hiked the Grand Canyon four times and traveled Europe, all while enjoying fine cigars.

Kyle's memory will be celebrated by his parents John and Susan, his sister Erica, his grandmother Iris McAfee, his grandmother and grandfather Neal and Nancy Eddy, several aunts and uncles including Mary and David Cole, Carol and Russ Mosser, Chuck and MB McAfee, and Jerry and Oreen Eddy, numerous cousins including Andrew and Jonathan Eddy, Kim, Scott, Emily and Bridgette Beaton, Scott Mosser, Julie McAfee, Justin and Brad Tafoya, Kevin, Brian, and Lauren Cole, and many many friends.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 15 at the First United Methodist Church in Carson City. Continuing in Kyle's tradition as an altruistic and compassionate man, the family asks that donations in the memory of Kyle be made to the Salvation Army. Arrangements entrusted to Walton's Chapel of the Valley, Carson City.
